MIDLAND, MI—Midland's Chippewa Nature Center is preparing to host its 18th annual Native Plant Sale.

Members with the CNC, located at 400 S. Badour Rd., will be able to enjoy an early presale on Friday, June 2 from 1-6 p.m., with sales opening to the public from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, June 3 and 1- 4 p.m. Sunday, June 4.

According to a release by the CNC, more than 90 species of native wildflowers, grasses, vines, shrubs and trees suited for a variety of growing conditions will be made available to help turn your yard into a beautiful, healthy habitat to support native birds and insects year-round.

The plants featured at this sale, as they are native to the region, are said to be well-adapted to Michigan's unique ecosystems and weather patterns.

These flowers and other plants can provide food for native pollinators including butterflies, native bees, and hummingbirds.

The release said many of these plants grow deep roots which help to stabilize soil and protect from stormwater run-off as well as the effects of droughts.

While many of these species require a little extra care in their first two years, once they are well-established, the release shared that they will be permanent fixtures in your landscaping, adding color and fauna interest for years to come.

Visitors may stop by the CNC on Friday June 2 to become members and shop early, with new memberships purchased through June 4 receiving a free plant.

A pictorial guide of plants can be purchased for $5 at the sale, complete with growing conditions, wildlife value and more.

CNC staff and the native plant group "Wild Ones" will be on-hand to help shoppers with their needs.

A complete list of flora included in this year's sale has been made available at chippewanaturecenter.org.
