Niverville Mayor Makes Plea for Help in Finding Vandals

Just one day prior to the May long weekend, and after hours of readying the Niverville splash pad for local families to enjoy, the Public Works department returned to a nasty surprise.
"We had vandalism to a significant extent in one of the washrooms," Mayor Myron Dyck said at a June 6 council meeting. "Divisions were pulled out of the walls between the urinals and fixtures were smashed."
While council already has some potential leads on the vandals in question, they are calling for help from anyone with any knowledge about the incident.
Mayor Dyck, specifically, is asking parents to get involved by speaking with their children in case they may have overheard conversations among their peers.
"We’re not looking to have anyone get a criminal record," Dyck said. "But we would like it… if these people would be willing to turn themselves in."
The total damages, in the ballpark of $5,000, will be repaired with money from this year's recreation budget—money that would otherwise have paid for needed items or summer programming.
"It may mean that [the washroom] rebuild will look a little more like a jail cell because we may have to go to stainless [steel] so things that can be broken less [easily]."
