Saturday, June 3The Dows in Their Own Words: Meet at the 1899 Pines Home in Dow Gardens from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m., as excerpts from family letters are read and shine a spotlight on life, for the Dow family, at the turn of the century. Participants will progress through this National Historic Landmark with readings along the way. Admission is $5 per person plus admission. Registration is recommended.
Self-Guided Saturdays is set for 11 to 1 p.m. at Dow Gardens. Step into the world of Herbert H. and Grace A. Dow on a tour The Pines, a National Historic Landmark. The home is filled with treasures, collected by the Dow family, and trained docents will share the stories that make these artifacts come to life. You’ll visit the music room with its casket-style music box. View Herbert's favorite chair next to a traditional inglenook fireplace. You’ll see books read by the Dow children and clothing worn by Grace A. Dow, herself. Limited space, reservations recommended. Be sure to arrive 15 minutes prior to the tour. Adults $5 plus admission. Children $3 plus admission. Children younger than 5 free.

Dow's Summer Reading Kickoff party will be held in conjunction with the Midland Center for the Arts Summer Art Fair on Main Street in downtown Midland. The Library will have bounce houses, craft stations, face painting, story times on the half-hour (from 11am to 4pm), food trucks, and more. Vernal Pool Patrol. Meet at Chippewa Nature Center's Visitor Center, 1-2:30 p.m., to learn about one of Michigan's most diverse ecosystems – vernal pools. Participants will be collecting data for the citizen science program Vernal Pool Patrol. Bring shoes, you won't mind getting wet. This program is designed for all ages, under 18 w/adult. Full Moon Stroll. Join an Interpretive Naturalist at Chippewa Nature Center, 8:30 – 10 p.m, for a hike to enjoy this month's full moon. Learn how the tradition of naming moons began and what makes each month special. Wear dark colors and bring a flashlight. Meet at the Visitor Center. This program is designed for ages 9+, under 18 w/adult.
June 3-4Summer Art Fair, hosted by Midland Center for the Arts, is set for 10 a.m. to 5 p.m in downtown Midland.
3rd annual Art Seen Festival, a community mural project, will be completing the Little Forks wall this year, nestled between year one's The Fox and year two's Home: Yesterday, Today, Tomorrow murals. This wall is on the back of the Twice is Nice building downtown, which shares a parking lot with Whichcraft Taproom. In addition, a second commissioned mural will be created this year at UpBeat Music Academy, the first mural in Center City, at 109 E Ashman St., between Cambridge Street and Saginaw Road. Throughout the festival, there will be acoustic performances by a variety of talented local musicians on Saturday and Sunday evenings, presented by The Blue Light Music Venue.
The Midland Antique Festival, featuring 1,000 antique dealers as well as a swapmeet, is set for 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday. The festival also hosts one of Michigan's longest running car shows. Admission is $10; children 11 and younger free. Early bird admission also is available. Free parking.

Ancient Shores Covenant of Unitarian Universalist Pagans will host a family-friendly Midsummer Pride Picnic at Emerson Park (shelter E) from 2-5 pm. This event will celebrate Midsummer and Pride. Sangeetayan Institute of Dance & Music of India of Midland will present its annual program at 2 pm in the auditorium of Grace Dow Memorial Library, 1710 W. St. Andrews, Midland. The program will feature Indian dance and music items by students of Sangeeta Kar. The oldest Indian classical dance form called Odissi, noted for its innate gracefulness, sculpturesque postures and fluid movements will be presented. Songs and dances from the Indian film industry Bollywood will also be featured. Students ranging from 3 to adult will perform dressed in traditional costumes and jewelry from India. Sangeeta Kar is the founder-director. The public is invited. The event is free.
